Presented in a 9” x 6” wood display case is a round ball and a Russian-Siberian coin with labels.
The .54 caliber lead rifle ball was recovered at the site of Fort Ross. This was a Russian fur trading post on the Pacific coast north of San Francisco. It was the hub of the southernmost Russian settlements in North America from 1812 to 1841.
Additionally, there is a large 5-kopeck coin dated 1772, which is typical of Russian-Siberian coinage of the site. An image of the old fort site and a text label completes the small display. [jet] [ph:L]
