Item is made out of two pierces of canvas material that has been sewn together at top center with the edges and the central seam bound in brown leather. Laid flat the shabrack (saddlecloth) meas. approx. 38.50 x 31.00 inches. The top is khaki colored while the reverse shows a little more of a greenish tint. The difference in color is probably due to use and exposure.
The front corners of the shabrack are rounded while the rear corners come to an elongated point. Inside the point are shadows of a number “3” over the letter “E.” These shadows have been outlined in ink so they are clearly visible. Letters meas. approx. 2 x 2 inches. Looking at this are from the backside one can see outlines of other company letters showing that this item was issued and reissued. There are no Government markings
The top surface of the item is dirty from age, storage and use. There are also some scattered water stains.
The leather on the bound edges are dry, have crazing and in several areas it has broken off. Altogether there is approx. 80% to 90% present. [ad]
