This original, double-action, .44 caliber, six shot revolver was made by the Colt’s Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut. The sidearm has a six shot cylinder matched to a 4¾” long round barrel with an ejector rod. Gun metal has been factory plated and the top of barrel has a one-line address marking of “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. Left side of barrel bears a narrow etched panel that reads “COLT FRONTIER SIX-SHOOTER” in 1/8” high block letters. Sidearm bears serial # 21636 and measures a total of 10½” long. Revolver displays a two-piece set of black hard rubber grips that feature factory checkering with the integral oval rampant Colt embossed motif on both grips.
Revolver finish is plated and retains almost all of it but frame does exhibit dark spots of flaking and oxidation especially near the cylinder and muzzle. Fluted cylinder bears serial # that matches frame. Triggerguard exhibits the marking “44 CAL” on the left edge. Guard also screws out. Buttstrap integral with the frame and retains its standard lanyard swivel ring hole and swivel attached. Serial # on buttstrap is 21636. Bore is dusty with light oxidation but should clean up to semi bright. Assembly numbers found on various components. Original frame screws in good condition. Mechanics are crisp. A clean, original standard Model 1878 Colt Double Action revolver.
