Presented here is a percussion sidearm manufactured by the Manhattan Firearms Company of Newark, New Jersey. A total quantity of 78,000 of Manhattan Navy pocket handguns were produced in Newark from 1859 through 1868.
Revolver is a Manhattan Series “III”, .36 caliber model revolver designated the “Navy Type.” In good overall condition, this sidearm has a three-screw frame. It has an unrebated cylinder with traces of a five-panel roll-engraved scene. It has a 4” long octagonal barrel with “MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS CO. NEWARK N.J.” stamped on top flat.
All gunmetal appears cleaned leaving a pewter-gray tone overall. This revolver does bear matching serial numbers of “35752” visible on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and brass butt strap. Wedge is in place but broken. All nipples original and remain in good condition. Mechanically good except it does not hold at half cock; indexes well. There are two blued screws that are likely replacements.
The smooth, one-piece walnut grips are in very good condition with a few very minor dings on the butt.
Gun comes with a perfectly fitted leather holster. Made of one piece of black bridle leather, sewn together along back seam and with flap. Brass finial is mounted on flap with unusual closing strap coming up to the finial from the bottom. Holster has fitted shape from the above revolver. Wide belt loop sewn on back. Leather remains in good, pliable condition. [jet][ph:L]

This is a very nice CDV photograph of Charles E. Crow in Confederate uniform. It appears to be a second-generation image; photo of an existing photo. Regardless, the picture is clear with good contrast. Crow wears a Confederate 2nd lieutenant's,… (1138-988). Learn More »
