This a small, very pretty York County powder horn in about excellent condition, with nicely turned spout matching the rich brown color of the upper portion of the horn that smoothly transitions into pleasing cream color toward the bottom. The turning of the spout, with channels, ridges and incised lines mirrors the lower portion of the horn with two, narrow incised lines running around the bottom of the horn that are in turn carried on in the narrow incised lines and the broader rounded channels and raised ridges of the base plug that end with a raised ring chip carved to imitate a roped border, surmounted by a narrow channel and top mound with recessed center. The horn has just some small, shallow handling scratches and one very small spot about a third of the way down from the neck where it looks like there is a small drop of resin or glue, perhaps to fill a chip, but this is a very appealing horn with no chips or defects to the turning of the spout or base plug. There is no sign of a staple at either end, but size would indicate it was meant to be carried in a hunting bag rather than on a shoulder strap. [sr][ph:m/L]
