Dr. Edward Maynard held patent #22,565 dated January 11, 1859.  By this patent, cartridge cases for the Maynard carbine were made of drawn brass to form a tube with a closed end.  A brass disk was soldered to the base of the tube.  The large diameter of the base disk was to aid in extracting the case after firing.

This is the much scarcer .35 caliber cartridge. The lead bullet features a pointy nose and a single groove. The cartridge was separate primed — a small hole in the base allowed the flame from a percussion cap through to ignite the powder charge. This specimen is a rarer example where a copper ballon rivet was added to ensure the bottom disk was securely attached. The priming hole is drilled directly through the center of the rivet.

Perfect to display with a Maynard carbine. This cartridge is in excellent condition.  [jet][ph:jet]
