This is a cased display set of reproduction Crispin cartridges as given out at the 2005 California Cartridge Collectors Show. Foam-filled plastic case holds five different Crispin cartridges made for the event and a descriptive label.
The head of each cartridge is marked “CCCA” with dates from 2001 through 2005.
The original Crispin cartridges, patented in August of 1865 by Silas Crispin, had its fulminate charge contained in the rim located around the body of the cartridge case. This was an attempt to get around other existing patents. It never caught on and original cartridge specimens are rare today.
This reproduction set is an inexpensive way to represent “Crispin” in any collection of early military ammunition. [jet] [ph:L]
