This small pistol flask is embossed with an attractive pair of oak leaf and acorn clusters in the top quarter, below which a long, thin, scrolling chevron with dots separates it from a pair of knotted oak leaf and acorn clusters in the lower half, with a narrow border at bottom that appears to be three twigs or branches, like a low, woven, rustic wattle fence. The detail throughout is excellent and the copper body shows its old brown lacquer finish with just the some of the high points showing a muted copper color from rubbing. The brass base and top are very good. Spout, thumbpiece, and spring are in place. The brass shows some muted gilt, with thin scratches revealing an aged brass patina. The spring shows blue and brown. The base shows two compartments with pivoting circular covers, one likely for powder and the other for percussion caps, making it handy not only for use in a case but for carriage in a pocket as well. The decorative elements are very English and reminiscent of a Victorian hunting lodge. [SR] [ph:m]
