Willard Ellis and John White patented this cartridge in 1859.  This copper cartridge held the priming compound within the bottom edge of the “cup” in order to circumvent Smith & Wesson’s rimfire patent. This size cartridge was used in the Plant “Army” front-loading revolver. No head stamp.

One specimen has a collector’s identification in fine white paint on the cartridge. Both cartridges are in very fine condition. [jet][ph:jet]
