Wooden shipping crate for 10 sharps carbines. Crate is missing the lid but is marked on one end with a clear date of “AUGUST 1876.” The same edge has some faint markings that look to read “10 SHARPS CARBINES.” The opposite end has a similar marking but it is a bit fainter than the other end.
Crate meas. approx. 44.50 inches long x 13.50 inches wide x 11.50 inches high. Both ends have two drilled holes for rope handles which are now gone.
Crate is held together by a mix of round head and square head iron nails. Interior corners are reinforced by wooden supports.
Wood is dried and split in places but is overall holding together very well and would make a nice display. [ad] [ph:L]
