This is a “pulp bag” of percussion caps as manufactured at the Royal Laboratory at Woolwich, England. Each pack was to contain 15 copper percussion caps.  Packages are full of caps and twisted close at the top.  In very nice condition.  This pack came out of an original packing tin for British land service.

The arsenal-packed tin this came out of (see item #M25672) measures 5” in diameter x 4 ¾” high. Lid is marked “1050 / Percussion Caps / W [broad arrow] D”. Container has original paper label for “Percussion Caps / H.P.” and 1864 inspection dates, which match date on caps. A few loose caps in the tin were stamped with the year of manufacture, “64”, on the top as prescribed by English regulation. The new Hard Pressure (HP) cap was introduced in 1861 as stronger percussion caps were needed to ignite new combustible carbine ammunition.

A photo of the tin is included above; tin DOES NOT accompany purchase.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a package of English percussion caps manufactured at Woolwick arsenal in 1864 for British service.  [jet]
