This regulation M1860 Cavalry Officer has the decorated guard with the eagle, decorated branches and pommel. The grip is sharkskin and wrapped with gilt wire. The guard and pommel are covered with heavy gold. The blade is marked with the etched “Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass.” The blade etch has scroll work, stands of arms and military trophies. There is an American Eagle on the obverse and a script “US” on the reverse. The all steel scabbard has a throat made without springs to clamp the blade and has a wood liner. [ph:L]
