GERMAN WORLD WAR TWO MODEL 1935 DOUBLE DECAL ARMY HELMET

$3,500.00 SOLD

Item Code: 1216-11

The Supreme Commander of the German Army officially accepted this type of helmet on 25 June 1935.  The basic design was similar to the World War I helmet, although it was more compact, lighter in weight, and carried an updated look.  The helmet was press formed in several stages using sheets of molybdenum steel.  Separately inserted hollow rivets replaced the large air vent lugs found on World War I helmets. The rim of the helmet was rolled under for a smooth edge.

This helmet retains approx. 98% of its original dark green paint with some loss from scattered rub marks here and there on the crown. The silver-colored Army eagle decal on the left side of the helmet is 98% intact with some scratches and a tiny bit of loss in the upper right corner. The right side of the helmet has a national tri-color decal that is 100%

The interior of the helmet has its original leather liner which is complete and shows little wear from use and is complete with the drawstring at top. Liner also bears the stamped sized “56.” There is a faint oval acceptance stamp in the dome. Helmet has a complete chinstrap.

This helmet is marked “Q64”on the inside left of the skirt. This shows the helmet was produced by F.W. Quist of Esslingen. The Quist factory primarily manufactured M35 and M40 models however an extremely small number of M42s have been observed. The helmet is size 64. Lot number on the back of the skirt is “3613.”    [ad]  [ph:L]
