Haversack is made of OD Green canvas that is in excellent condition. Unlike haversacks in most earlier wars this one was carried on the soldier’s back like a pack.
The main central compartment is formed by two canvas flaps which fold over and are fastened together by three straps. The top of the compartment is covered by the outer flap which is stenciled with a strong “U.S.”
Also present is the tail for holding the shelter half which attached to the bottom of the haversack using a leather thong.
The haversack is complete with both the shovel carrying case and mess kit pouch attached to the outer lid.
The back of the haversack has a set of shoulder straps as well as two shorter straps that attach to the cartridge belt to help keep the haversack centered on the back.
Haversack is marked “LUB PROD. CO.” over “1941.”
Canvas is cleaned and the blackened metal fixtures retain their original finish. [ad] [ph:L]
