The overall length of the drawn blade is 14.50 inches from point to pommel. Blade is bright and in excellent condition with just a few rub marks. Ricasso in marked with the figure of a man swinging a sledge hammer and “E. PACK & SOOHNE, SOLINGEN.” Blade edge is excellent. Leather washer is present at the base of the blade and in good condition.
Iron guard and pommel are nickel plated. Grips are crosshatched Bakelite and held by two rivets. Locking mechanism works but the mortise holds a piece of red felt which is correct for a dress bayonet. Overall, the hilt is excellent.
Black metal scabbard is complete with a leather frog. Scabbard surface shows very little wear with only several small rub marks from age and storage. Leather frog is good and marked on the reverse “GOTTLIB KURZ” over “WIESBADEN-IGSTADT.”
The attached green cloth portepee has a white stem above the green acorn. Portepee is excellent.
A very nice example. [ad] [ph:L]
