Khaki canvas haversack made by the PLANT BROS. COMPANY in November 1918 and reissued for early World War Two use.
Haversack is in fair to good condition. Its drawbacks are moderate surface dirt and scattered light staining from age and use and there is also one small area of edgewear on the left shoulder strap. Otherwise, the haversack is solid and usable.
Backflap is stenciled with black “U.S.” and has the meat can or mess kit pouch attached. The body of the item has all the proper straps to include the “U.S.” marked tail with leather attaching thong.
The mess kit pouch is marked on the inside with the last four digits of a serial number while the haversack body bears the last initial and last four serial number digits of another soldier. These marks show that the item was reissued for World War Two. [ad] [ph:L]
