SIXTH-PLATE TINTYPE OF SEATED UNION SOLDIER WITH AN INTERESTING SHIRT

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2022-1043

Image is a three-quarter seated view of an unknown Union soldier. He is posed seated by a table on which his forage cap rests. The forage cap is dark with a gold gilt painted crossed sabers with a number “6” below it. There is another insignia on the front of the cap but the gilt paint obstructs it.

The subject wears a sack coat with matching trousers. His coat is open to reveal a light-colored shirt with a dark collar and placket running down the front. Placket has four buttons down the front all touched with gilt paint. Sack coat buttons are also tinted. At the soldier’s waist, beneath the sack coat, is a leather belt with a rectangular Pattern 1851 belt plate.

Contrast and clarity are excellent.

Image comes with a decorative brass mat and stamped brass frame which are in very nice condition.

Leather case is in good condition. [ad] [ph:L]
