RARE MODEL 1873 ENTRENCHING TOOL WITH LEATHER SCABBARD

The tool itself has an iron elongated spade shaped blade that meas. approx. 3.50 inches wide by 8.50 inches long. The iron surface is smooth and in very nice condition with only some scattered mottling. One edge of the tool is flat while the other can be sharpened if desired.

Rounded wood handle is tapered and grooved. It measures approx. 4.00 inches long with “US” stamped at the bottom.

The sewn leather scabbard is formed to the shape of the blade and has a brass edge held by brass rivets. The reverse of this brass edging has an iron loop for attaching a frog. One of the upper corners of the scabbard is stamped “US.”

Leather is in excellent condition. All stitching is holding tight.

This is a seldom encountered item in very nice condition. [AD] [PH:L]
