Also known as Kanalhosen in German, this pair of well-used, highly desirable Luftwaffe Channel Trousers were purchased from a dealer who had no information on the history of the item.
These trousers and a matching jacket became officially approved as a flight suit around the time of the Battle of Britain due to it being practical and more comfortable then the one piece flight suit.
These specific trousers are electrically heated for use in winter and high altitude flying. These trousers were made by Karl Heisler of Berlin whose maker’s label is present in the waist. Trousers have a nice purple Velour lining. All of the electric wiring and plugs are present. All original snaps and buttons are present as are all the pockets. Zippers are functional and either made by RAPID or ZIPP.
The major defect of the item is the fragility of the outer material which has frayed and has numerous stress separations and several pieces of missing material. There is some modern stitching visible where an attempt was made to repair some of the outside cloth.
These trousers, when found in good condition, are worth considerably more than our asking price. As it is, this pair is an inexpensive way to fill out a Luftwaffe display or perhaps a good candidate for a restoration project. [ad] [ph:L]
