This is the standard German army bayonet of World War Two, designed to fit the Karabiner 98 Kurz rifle (the Mauser K98), a shorter, modified version of the 1898 Mauser, that was adopted by the German army in 1935. The bayonets came with wood grips like one or with bakelite grips. This one is stamped 2042S on side of the ricasso and S/172K on the other, which we believe is the weapon code for Carl Eickorn as the manufacturer in 1934.
The wood grips are very good, with just minor dings and pressure dents. The pommel and guard have a matching thinning blue. The blade is deep blue/black with no visible wear. The scabbard has some thin blue but is shading toward gray, with one very slight dent on face about half way down. The black leather belt frog is there and solid. The frog stud is in place and gray.
