Standard was awarded a contract for 370,000 carbines on August 6, 1942. Approximately 247,160 total carbines were made by Standard Products, about 4% of M1 carbines made. The first block of serial numbers was 1,982,500 – 2,352,419. Barrels were supplied by Inland, Buffalo Arms, Underwood, I.B.M., Marlin and Winchester. Standard manufactured the bolt, receiver, trigger housing and operating slide. All other parts were sub-contracted out. In 1949 Standard was awarded an ordnance contract for the repair and overhaul of 400,000 service-worn carbines. They were parkerized and had a bayonet lug and new sights added, and other modifications. These carbines were used in Korea and in Vietnam, mostly by South Vietnamese troops.
Offered is a fine example of an M1 carbine that is exactly the way it was shipped from the factory in Port Clinton, OH. It may have been brought home from the war by a veteran. The receiver is marked “STD. PRO” and serial number 2114516. Based on the serial number it was assembled around early 1944. The I.B.M. marked barrel is dated 11-43. The original finish is a gray brown finish. The bolt is blued with almost all of the original finish. Bore is excellent. This carbine has been completely dis-assembled and a data sheet was completed. Marked parts are original, just the way it was assembled at the factory. Missing are the sling, magazine and oiler. Has a modern clip. The wood has some dings from normal handling and use. This is a near mint carbine that has been rarely fired. A fine example of a rare carbine as used in WW2. Accompanied by a copy of the data sheet. [ff]
