The bricole rope was used by artillerists to drag their gun short distances. The rope was attached by a snap hook to the gun and the other end of the rope has a woven strap that the artillerist would wear around his shoulder to pull the gun.
This particular bricole rope is made of 2.50 inch wide twisted hemp that is coiled around a 2.50 inch wide woven strap. Where the rope meets the strap it is reinforced with an iron ring. The opposite end has the same kind of iron reinforcement with a 5.00 inch long iron gate hook that is very much like the Civil War carbine snap hook in design.
Rope has been left coiled as found but on examination it looks to be in good condition overall. Iron and rope show light wear and surface dirt.
These ropes are seldom encountered from any period. [ad]
