This cowhide belt is commonly known as the “Sam Browne” belt. It was named after the English officer who invented it in the late 1850’s. This particular belt is complete with the adjustable shoulder strap and a waist buckle that adjusts the width of the belt. The belt is held closed by the use of two brass hooks on one end which attach under the waist belt. The body of the belt has decorative stitching and is marked on the inside with “COLT QUALITY.” The surfaces of the belt show light wear and is in overall good condition.
This is a good example of the dress belt worn by American officers in World War Two.
