Item Code: 173-89

Album has 11 pages with photos on both sides of each page. 3 pages are blank. There is a thin sheet of tissue paper between each page. Altogether there are approx. 100 photos. The first page has a nice 5x7 sized bust view of the soldier in his helmet. Also on this page is a photo of him mounted on a horse. Written on the page is “9 April 1935.” The album begins with photos of soldiers in the field. Two are shown sleeping sitting upright on an artillery caisson. This section also contains a shot of a line of soldiers laying in a shallow trench or ditch. Another shows a different group digging. The next section is believed to be photos of Calais, France. This section contains about 12 images of battle-damaged houses and sections of the city as well as soldiers resting and advancing toward an iron bridge. There is also a photo of a refugee’s cart piled high with his possessions. Another section has pictures taken around Paris.

The album then seems to move east with some shots of peasants in front of a hut, a battle damaged bridge and what looks like a small Russian church. There are some photos taken of snowy landscapes and long, wide-open plains. Toward the end of the album there are pictures of German soldiers gathered around long range binoculars and pointing off in the distance. They are standing in an area that appears to be shoreline so they may be back in France and looking toward England. Wherever they are in this last section of the album it does not look like Russia. Album is in good condition with cloth covers but missing closure latch.
