WW2 JAPANESE SOLDIER’S GOOD LUCK FLAG

$225.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1251-55

Signed by friends and family and inscribed with wishes for good luck these flags were popular gifts presented to soldiers departing for war. They became equally desirable war souvenirs for G.I.s and Marines serving in the Pacific and were certainly easier to pack in a duffel bag than a samurai sword. This one is typical of the type, made with leather corner reinforcement for the ties and showing the red sun prominently on a white field with the personalized inscriptions in black surrounding it. This is in solid condition, with no holes or tears, but does have a number of stains, large and small, that we have not had analyzed.

It has become popular in recent years to have these translated, sometimes yielding interesting service records or even surviving family connections. For Marines and G.I.s bringing them home they were often reminders of fierce combat, appalling conditions, and mementos of sheer survival. This one certainly looks like a battlefield pick-up.  [sr] [ph:L]
