This is a very interesting and unusual piece of WW1 “trench art”. Flower vases made from artillery shell casings and letter openers with handles made from rifle cartridge cases and slivers of artillery shells are commonly encountered. But here is a small model monoplane constructed from brass components and decorated with German crosses on the wings and tail.

The wings are made of sheet brass while the body is made of various rifle cartridges. Wheeles are cartridge case heads cut off of Labell cartridges. Some slight bends and twists, especially to landing gear. Some loss of paint on the ten German crosses. Brass displays a nice mellow brass patina.

A great piece of WW1 trench art!   [jet] [ph:L]
