This parabike is the second version. All parts are original unless otherwise stated.
The assembly includes the folding frame, seat post, seat, front fork, light/brake cable support bar, and handle bars.
The folding frame is in overall good condition. The frame’s female stem for the seat post has been shortened, whether this was done during the war or later is not known. The frame has the original front chain sprocket with post-war pedals. The pedals also appear to be fused to the connecting sprocket rods. The frame serial number is R23673 which dates this frame to around 1943.
The handlebar grips are exact reproductions of the originals. The handlebar “T” bolt and spacer are missing. The “T” bolt is what tightens the handlebars to the front fork. The purpose of the bolt was for easy tightening and loosening of the handlebars by the paratrooper when preparing for a jump or road travel. This bolt can easily be manufactured in any metal shop.
The seat is the original BSA 40 seat. The metal seat frame is in good condition but the leather seat is in poor condition.
The paint on the frame is post-war and none of the decals are present.
The bike is a good candidate for restoration or for display as is. The bike fits the D-DAY, MARKET GARDEN or OPERATION VARSITY time period. [ad] [ph:L]
