Small brass match safe that meas. approx. 2 3/8 inches x 1.50 inches x 0.75 of an inch. Each end is open to allow a small matchbox to slide in while each side has a cut opening to expose the striker surface of the box. The bottom is plain but the top has a blue and white enameled 3rd Infantry Division insignia within a brass wreath.
The 3rd US Infantry Division is known as “The Rock of the Marne” Division in honor of the units stand against a heavy German drive in the Chateau-Thierry Sector in June of 1918. The division kept the Germans from gaining a foothold on the Marne River.
The brass and enamel surfaces show light to moderate surface dirt from age, use and storage. Otherwise the item is in good condition.
