This badge is in wonderful condition. It only displays the slightest wear from age. The veteran must have brought this item home and put it away for safekeeping. The top device is a rectangle surmounted by a 5-pointed star within a wreath. The face of the rectangle is inscribed “THE CITY OF THE HOUR” then across the bottom is “DALLAS.” The rectangle has a scroll work design across the top, below the star and each edge has a Corinthian column. Suspended from this top bar is a long red ribbon in pristine condition. The bottom edge has a strip of gold bullion tape holding approx. 20 dead bullion tassels.
The back of the ribbon still has it’s “like new” makers label while the back of the top bar has its pin. Also suspended from the top bar, but in front of the red ribbon, are two smaller rectangles separated by one chain link on each end. The top rectangle reads “STAFF, COMM-IN-CHIEF” in two lines while the lower one reads “ASSISTANT QMTR. GENERAL” also in two lines. The very bottom piece is a cross made up of four squares. Starting at the top and going clockwise the squares have the following: “35TH ANNUAL REUNION DALLAS 1925, Confederate monument in Dallas, colored enameled Confederate Battle Flag and a bust profile of Robert E. Lee. At the center of the four squares is “UCV.” This badge is still pinned to the original card it came on.
