Original United Confederate Veteran’s (UCV) suspension badge as worn by its members at the UCV Reunion in Birmingham, Alabama on May 16-18, 1916.
The two-piece suspension badge has a top pin bar device that features a brass bar stamped “SOUVENIR”. Two small circular wire rings suspend the second piece of the badge. This component is a brass shield device 1¼” wide and 1½” high with two small crossed enamel filled Confederate flags. Year “1916” flanks the flags. Face of the shield above the flags reads “REUNION / U. C. V.” Along the bottom is “MAY 16-18 / BIRMINGHAM, ALA.”
On reverse, the pin is attached to the top bar and is functional. The second badge has maker’s stamp “SCHWAABS & S. CO / MILWAUKEE”. Minor surface scratches. A small knob in the center where the crossed flags were added to the front. [ mc] [ph:L]
