This United Confederate Veterans badge uses a broad red forked-tail ribbon as background for an impressive badge. The ribbon broadens slightly at the bottom and at the top is sewn onto the support bar of a white metal pin-back clasp with floral bordered frame reading “Washington Camp” at center. Fastened to the front of the ribbon is a small Palmetto tree, itself woven from strands of Palmetto, that includes a broad base, all clearly in tribute to the state seal. Tied to this at a slight angle to better display it, is a small Confederate first national flag, 13 stars on a blue canton with red, white, red stripes, printed on a loose-weave fabric with a short wood staff.
The fabric of the ribbon and flag is fully intact and the colors are excellent. The Palmetto tree is in excellent condition as well. We see just a little wear and one or two breaks to the narrow top loops forming the branches of the tree, which are hardly noticeable.
This is an elaborate and rather showy UCV ribbon that really emphasizes its South Carolina connections, to say the least. [sr] [ph:L]
