Top bar is made of stamped brass and frames a piece of celluloid with a full color GAR Membership badge at center flanked by “GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC.” The ribbon is solid black with silver lettering and artwork with coiled bullion tassels along the bottom edge. At center is a GAR star in the center of a wreath. This is surrounded by lettering that reads “SION S. BASS POST NO. 40 FORT WAYNE, IND.” The reverse has the same decoration and wording but on a red, white and blue striped ribbon. The item meas. approx. 7.00 inches long and is 2.50 inches wide. Both sides of the ribbon are clean. The red, white and blue striped ribbon has a slight separation in the name “BASS.”

Sion S. Bass was from Fort Wayne, Indiana and was Colonel of the 30th Indiana Infantry. He was wounded at Shiloh on April 7, 1862 and died of his wounds on April 13th in a hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
