GAR souvenir of printed US flag on cotton surrounded by Corps Badges. Item meas. approx. 24.50 inches long x 15.75 inches wide. The 45 star United States flag is at center with a 2.00 inch border all the way around. This border contains Corps badges for all the different Corps in the Union Army. The badges are done in alternating red and blue colors. Each corner has the badge of an allied order. Upper left has the GAR Membership Badge while the upper right has the badge for the Women’s Relief Corps. The lower left has the Sons of Union Veterans badge and the lower right has the badge for Daughters of Union Veterans. Across the bottom is “G.A.R. ENCAMPMENT CHICAGO AUG. 1900.” Lower left has manufacturer’s name and date.
The condition of the item is good. There is some darkening to the cotton fibers and some minor separations and fold lines. The word “ENCAMPMENT” is affected the most by the separations but these can be repaired. The item is wrapped with clear plastic on a piece of cardboard. All this should be removed and the piece should be re-mounted.
