Top bar is made up of the letters “GAR” with a bar inscribed “WASHINGTON” superimposed over the center of the three letters. At one time the G was enameled red while the A was white and the R was blue but all of this enamel is now gone as the photo shows. The pin on the back is intact. The main medal has a spread winged eagle on top with a relief of the US Capitol building at center flanked by the figure of a soldier and a sailor. At bottom is a GAR star with a bust of George Washington surrounded by a laurel wreath at center. A riband surrounds the relief of the Capitol building. This has lettering which reads “36th NAT’L ENCAMPMENT OCT. 6-10 1902.” The back reads "OFFICIAL SOUVENIR / SCHWAAB S. & S. CO. / MILWAUKEE."
