This is nicely framed and matted display of original Confederate currency ready to hang. There are four notes, one $5, two $10, and one $20, all from the 7th Series, under the act of 17 February 1864, printed by Keatinge and Ball of Columbia, SC. A) T-69 5 Dollar note, Virginia state capitol, vignette portrait of C.G. Meminger, German born South Carolina delegate to the provisional CS congress, author of a justification of SC secession, first CS Secretary of the treasury; B and C) T-68 10 dollar notes with an artillery team and Robert M.T. Hunter, prewar Virginia congressman and senator, early war CS Secretary of State, and then CS senator. A critic of Jefferson Davis; D) T-67 20 Dollar, Tenn. State Capitol and Alexander Stephens, CS Vice President.
The notes are in very good condition with correct dates, numbers and signatures and are matted with openings on the reverse as well to make the backs of the bills visible. They are visually pleasing, historically interesting, and key part of the Confederacy’s effort to establish itself as an independent nation. [SR] [ph:L]
