Hexagonal six-pointed star, w/reverse bar-pin, 1.125” in diameter. Of white metal, lightly scratched. Else VG.

Composed of various units, the Union Corps was assigned to the Middle District of the Shenandoah in 1862, and spent much of its war service defending the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In mid-June however, the 2nd Division was badly mauled by Gen. Richard Ewell’s Confederate Corps at the Second Battle of Winchester during the early phase of the Gettysburg Campaign. Later on, in the summer of 1864, under Gen. Lew Wallace, the VIII Corps played a significant role at the Battle of Monocacy in defending Washington against the raiding forces of Gen. Jubal Early. Though hardly one of the famed Union Army Corps, the boys of VIII Corps nonetheless saw some patches of hard and bloody service.

Solid Corps badge collectible. In circular plastic container, 1.5” diameter, w/black foam backing.  [JP] [ph:L]
