4 page card, w/flag adorned color cover, 4.25” x 6.5, including dinner menu and rear cover portrait of Robert Cowdin, U.S.V., Co. First Reg. Mass. Vol. Inf. 1861, Brigadier-General U.S.V. 1862. Overall, VG plus.
The 1st Mass Infantry was mustered in May 1861. Engaged at Bull Run, the regiment became assigned to the Union 3rd Corps and eventually the 2nd Corps, participating in all major battles of the Army of the Potomac from 1862 through the 1864 Battle of Spotsylvania, after which it was mustered out, 25 May 1864. During service it lost 142 men killed and mortally wounded and 79 by disease for a total of 221. In protective sleeve. [jp] [ph:L]
