The ideals of the 50th anniversary commemoration centered upon the notions of reconciliation and unity, and the coin here reflects these sentiments.

It is essentially a coin honoring those who served in Gettysburg.  The coin illustrates two veterans kneeling at the feet of the Goddess of Commerce.  She carries items of agricultural trade goods in each hand.  To the right, the words ‘FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF GETTSYBURG’ are scripted.  At the feet of the veterans reads ‘1863 REUNION 1913.’ There are some signs of oxidation near the top of the coin.

On the reverse, there are two hands embraced in a handshake, signifying the meeting of the former Union and Confederate soldiers. Their hands are clasped over the words ‘REUNION CIVIL WAR VETERANS 1913’ inlayed in laurel branches.

A very interesting piece and unique find for those searching for items commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. [mk] [ph:L]
