Two-piece badge features a top hangar in the shape of a cartouche label. Raised lettering reads, “124TH NEW YORK INFANTRY”. Original pin remains on reverse. Suspended from this is a round medal which shows an image of Colonel Ellis. Raised lettering circling image reads, “MANASSAS GAP TO APPOMATTOX / GOSHEN, SEPT. 5, 1907 / IN MEMORIAM”. Maker’s mark is on reverse. Total length measures 2 ½”. Badge comes in original box from The Whitehead & Hoag Company of New York.

The 124th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, commonly known as the Orange Blossoms, was a volunteer regiment from Orange County, New York, during the Civil War. Formed in Goshen during the summer of 1862, the unit was officially mustered into United States Service on September 5, 1862, by Col. Augustus van Horne Ellis, the regiment was made up of volunteers from the surrounding towns and a core of veterans from the 71st New York State Militia. [sl]
