A red ribbon measuring approximately 2” wide x 4 1/2” long is suspended behind a white metal, four bar, ladder badge. A brass pin is soldered to the rear of the top bar. The top bar reads, “CO. K.”, the second reads, “153”, the third reads, “PENN.”, and the fourth bar reads, “VOL. INF.” The text and engraved elements on the bars are filled with black paint. A tassel made of twisted brass wire is suspended from the last bar. Possibly some fraying to the bottom edge of the ribbon…hard to tell, it may have been intended to be that way.
The 153rd was organized at Easton, PA in September, 1862. Attached to 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 11th Corps, Army of the Potomac, in July, 1863. The unit duty in the Defense of Washington, D. C. and then fought in the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. They mustered out of service on July 24, 1863. The regiment lost 1 officer and 48 enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 28 enlisted men by disease, for a total 77. [jet]
