Maker-mark: Schuyler, Hartley & Graham [gold lettering, on silk-covered, case under-lid]. Two deluxe epaulettes with gilt straps & trim, with eagle buttons, bullion captain’s bars, with gilt wreaths encircling each shoulder cushion, both adorned with bullion “Q.M.” Quartermaster lettering. Triple layer bullion tassels, all present, with intact connector wire on all three. Under-epaulettes cased in red oil-skin with red silk shoulder cushion, trimmed in gilt. Gilt under-straps embossed with “Left” and “Right”, with crown-marked clasps. The carrying case is made of tin, with red silk inner lining, with white silk under-lid. Outer casing is light black leather. With intact hasp case clasp.
Both epaulettes exteriors are bright and in fine condition. Red oilskin under casings on both epaulettes exhibit light wear, with tiny side-tear on the left. Inner case silk linings exhibit light wear & soiling with small worn & frayed spot on under-lid near the Schuyler, Hartley & Graham maker mark. Outer casing exhibits medium wear & scuffing, bottom covering mostly gone. Hasp clasp intact & solid.
Superb display set. Civil War “Q.M.” epaulettes are scarce.
