Maker mark (“Horstman Bros. & Allen”) brass label plate on case lid. Bright gilt epaulettes with silver sequined colonels eagles mounted on shoulder strap, with gilt number “1” mounted within circular light blue silk disc trimmed in gilt [light blue signifies infantry, number “1” signifies first regiment]. Double strand of hanging brass tassels, with connecting threads. Epaulette undersides of yellow silk, w/brown tie strings and brass strap fastener clips. Tin carrying case originally “jappaned” copper on the inside, & black on top & around the outer sides. Equipped with small handle on top, with clasp hasp on side.
Outer epaulette bullion & tassels nicely bright, with slight tarnish of numeral gilt, & silver Eagle wings. Blue circular silk slightly worn & faded. Yellow silk underside is slightly faded, with slight wear at the edges. Case has one moderate, but significant dent. Much of the jappaning, both inside and out, is scuffed and is 60% gone. Hasp clasp is broken. Else VG.
