This greatcoat (soldier’s overcoat) is a full-length blue coat that appears to have been customized by the wearer to better suit his needs. Here, the cape and cuffs were removed and two pockets were added.

The coat remains in overall very nice condition. It retains its five eagle buttons on the front. The cape was removed but some “fringe” remains visible on one side of the collar. Typical of the style there is a stand-up collar, finished button holes, and tan blanket wool body lining. The sleeve linings and the waist adjuster belt on back were also removed. Two pockets were created on the front. The brown lining was stitched to the outer blue cloth to create a “pocket area”. Two cuts on the exterior form the pocket openings.

There are a few small holes that have been repaired by previous owner. Most of the original stitching is complete and strong. Originally acquired from James Stametalos.

This is an attractive coat as modified by the soldier, and will display perfectly.  [jet][ph:L]
