Standard issue dark blue wool shell jacket with red piping on collar and cuffs with red trim down the front and along the edges. Jacket has 12 General Service eagle buttons down the front with two buttons on each side of the collar and two at each functional cuff. All of the buttons appear to have been reattached and show various back marks. Corresponding button holes also appear to have been re-enforced.
The body of the jacket is in overall good condition. There are few signs of wear or dirt. Back center has both pillows. The piping and trim retain their original red color. Collar has no hooks or eyes remaining.
Interior is lined with a tan wool material. No pocket in the left breast. Sleeves are lined with white muslin. Right upper sleeve interior is stenciled with nice oval inspector’s stencil.
The entire interior had come apart and has been resewn. Likewise, various seams on the exterior have been restitched.
This jacket is a displayable example of a Civil War Artillery shell jacket. [jet][ph:L]
