Standard issue dark blue wool shell jacket with red piping on collar and cuffs and red trim down the front and along the edges.
Jacket has 12-button front with two buttons on each side of the collar. Back lower center has both pillows. Both cuffs are functioning. There are no signs of mothing however each sleeve does show the “ghost” of removed chevrons. The piping and trim retain their original bright red color. All buttons are original and are General Service eagle buttons. They are a mix of blank backs and “SCOVILLE EXTRA QUALITY.” All exterior seams are tight. Collar does not have the hook and eye closure at base.
Interior is lined with a brown wool material and has a vertical pocket in the left breast. Sleeves are lined with white muslin. Lining and interior seams are excellent. Left upper sleeve interior is stamped with a partial name of “CHRISD??IE.” Right sleeve is marked with 4 dots and a blurry inspector’s mark in an oval.
Jacket is clean overall and is really a first-rate example of a Civil War Artillery shell jacket. [ad] [ph:L]
