Standard issue dark blue wool shell jacket with red piping on collar and cuffs with red trim down the front and along the edges.

Jacket has 12-button front with two buttons on each side of the collar. Back center has both pillows. Both cuffs are functioning. The body of the jacket is in excellent condition. There are no signs of wear and no mothing can be detected. The piping and trim retain their original bright red color. All buttons are original and are General Service eagle buttons. Most have SCOVILLE back marks with several being blank on the reverse or EXTRA QUALITY.  All exterior seams are tight. Collar has single hook and eye closure at base.

Interior body has no lining. Sleeves are lined with white muslin. Right upper sleeve interior is stamped with four dots along with a costume company mark and the number “44.” The left sleeve lining has separated from the body three-quarters of the way around and is marked twice with a costume company mark and “DAMAGED” along with the number “44.” Around both sleeves the remains of the coarse body lining may be seen.

Jacket is clean overall and is a good example of a Civil War Artillery shell jacket. [ad] [ph:L]
