This overcoat is made of sky-blue wool with a red wool lining in the body. The exterior has a stand/fall collar, cape and single-breasted front. The high quality sky-blue material is in good condition with a number of scattered tiny moth bites, especially in the skirt. The right back lower panel of the skirt has suffered the most with three good sized holes that meas. approx. 2.75 x 2.00 inches each with smaller satellite holes. All buttons are New Hampshire state buttons and all buttonholes are machine done.
Typical stand-fall collar is plain with no decorative stitching and is held closed by two buttonholes on the left front of the collar. The buttons on the right side of the collar are missing. The front of the item has seven coat sized buttons with matching backmarks. All marks are raised in a depressed channel and read “SCOVILLE MFG. CO. WATERBURY.” All buttons are in good condition and match in patina. The cape has four of the five cuff sized buttons down the front. Three of the four have blank backs while the one at the bottom is marked “SCOVILLE.” The back center of the cape has a buttonhole for anchoring it to the coat by the means of another small button. The front right waist has a watch pocket minus the lining. The French cuffs each have a small button at the apex. The back of the coat has two coat sized buttons at the waist with backmarks to match those on the front and each side of the rear pleat has a tail pocket. This area also shows four buttons missing, two on each side under the opening for the tail pockets.
The interior of the coat has a bright red wool lining with brown polished cotton in each sleeve and tail pockets. There are some minor stress separations and moth bites on the body lining but nothing serious. Seams are tight where the sleeve lining meets the body. There is a horizontal pocket on the left side of the breast.
There are no visible markings on the item.
All seams both on the interior and exterior are good.
