Manufactured by James B. Boylan of Newark. Maker’s stencil is in the left sleeve lining. Boylan was a major uniform contractor during the Civil War. The overall appearance is impressive and displays well. It is a coat which saw service. Initials “A.C.B.” in ink on left sleeve lining. The cuffs and collar are trimmed with a light blue welt piping. The body is constructed of dark blue wool and has only a few scattered moth holes.
The interior is lined with a standard coarse brown wool lining. The lining does have some holes from shreading. Nine eagle buttons on front, backmarked Scovill Mfg. Co. Waterbury (rmdc). Functional cuff with two eagle buttons on each. Inside of collar has a small area repaired. Reverse side of coat with two eagle buttons. A few minor seam openings, easily repaired at your request.
Overall the coat displays well and it is not a surplus coat which never saw action. Fairly priced.
