This black felt slouch hat is in slightly worn condition. The edge of the hat looks to be bound with black cotton. The binding shows moderate to heavy wear with some of it loose. The felt of the crown is very soft and will easily hold whatever shape desired. Around the base of the crown is an alternating gold and black twisted officer’s hat cord. Attached to the front of the crown is a black felt oval with an Infantry hunting horn done in gold bullion and sequins at center. This insignia looks to be of Civil War vintage though the hat itself is later. The interior has a low brown sweatband approx. 1.25 inches high. The sweatband is solid and complete but does exhibit moderate wear on its surface.
