A beautiful example of a private contract “Rain Cover” designed for the McDowell pattern forage cap or kepi. This cover is also lined inside with a very fine maroon colored silk. Located on the right side at the bottom hem is an adjustable drawstring of a dark brown cotton tape, still in a tied position. The cover has the unmistakable crescent shape to contour that of the cap visor. Another interesting item of note, there is a faint number 20 stamped on the right side of the visor, the significance of which is unknown.
Condition: The overall surface is still bright and material is supple, some very light crazing located at the center of the visor and on the rear panel. Top panel seam, located at the front has a slight ½” separation.
